Race comment: The Maltese National TT Championship is based on a ranking after 3 national time trials.

The UCI finally posted the results of the Championships of Chile held in March.
They combined the ITT results of Elite and U23 but, unfortunately, not those of the RR.
For U23 they give the first three only, so impossible to construct a combined top 10...

For ETH19871114, MEHBRATU BIRU Gotom, also called BIRU Gotom Mehbratu or BIRU GOYTOM Mehbratu you find results between 2010 and 2014, not thereafter. However, in 2015 there was a team called Ethyopia Cycling Academy participating in races in Spain, including a BIRU Goytom M. with code ETH19920422. This is the same code as number 3 in this year’s RR championships, MEBRATU Goytom. It all seems to indicate that it concerns the same rider, but the question remains, how did he get five years younger all of a sudden…  

By the way, most of the names of the riders from Ethiopia in the database, like in all results published by the UCI or the press, are a bit of a mess, either through inconsistent transliteration or by not following the naming convention.

The official naming convention in Ethiopia (and Eritrea) is: “given name”, “father’s first name” and “grandfather’s first name”.
A surname or family name does not exist.
Following that principle, each rider in the database should be identified by his given name in capital letters, followed by one or two names (father’s and grandfather’s first names) in undercase.

For the rider in question this would probably give: BIRU Goytom Mehbratu. I let you choose his age…
