At the occasion of Chinese New Year an attempt to bring some consistency in the Chinese names in the CQ database.

There are several methods for the Romanization of Chinese characters, but the official system is Pinyin.
A Chinese family name, generally one Chinese character, is transcribed as one word and comes first.
The Chinese given names are one or often two Chinese characters and come after the family name. Even in the case of two characters the official Pinyin transcription is spelled in one single two syllable word without hyphen. This rule is most of the time followed in the Peoples Republic of China whilst Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore often neglect this rule and “westernise” the transcription of the two characters by creating two given names.
Hyphens between the two given names were used by other transcription systems. According to Pinyin the second word should in that case start with a small letter rather than with a capital.

So the spelling WONG Kam-Po on the UCI and CQ sites is doubly incorrect. As a hyphen is used it should be WONG Kam-po but according to Pinyin, it is WONG Kampo. However, as the rules are ignored in Hong Kong, it is mostly spelled as WONG Kam Po.

Of the 175 riders from China in the database, the majority has been romanized in accordance with the Pinyin rule. Only some 20 show two separate given names. Leave it up to you whether you want to change those.
The rider id’s are: 4622, 4623, 7174, 9689, 10124, 12782, 12919, 14362, 16582, 18328, 18329, 18332, 18361, 19787, 19788, 19790, 19795, 21204, 21205 and 21207.

With the 160 riders from Hong Kong and Taiwan the Pinyin rules are consistently ignored and they are in the database with two separate given names, with the exception of four riders, which could be changed for consistency:

There are also several hyphenated given names which, for consistency, should be changed by replacing the hyphen by a space.
Rider id’s: 655, 2135, 2605, 7321, 11574, 11578, 12043, 12044, 13898, 16086, 17317, 17318, 17319, 17522 and 20690.

With the Singaporean riders from Chinese origin the rules are also ignored. In some cases an English first name has been added or is simply replacing the Chinese first name. The same is actually the case with some riders from Hong Kong.

I'm adding something about Iranian names. Farhad, Behnam and Hasan are Iranian given names. The ending -i in family names means "son of...". For example the meaning of "Maliki" is "Son of Malik".
