25/04/2018 - Tour de Limpopo, Stage 3 - TTT

The fastest team was actually BCX with Hendrickx, Maree and Pritzen in 36’54” (23” seconds faster than the winners) but they lost their fourth rider Brandon Downs through a fall in the last kilometre, so they all got the time of their fourth finisher (to be added in the CQ result) Steven VAN HEERDEN (38’02”).

3rd in the official results are ACDC Luso at +48” with the following riders:
BENEKE Calvin, KRUGER Casper, KOTZE Jandrich (RSA19961130, ID 10013718410), EDWARDS Andrew and OOSTHUIZEN Jason.
Other teams one down.

I know, but the provisional detailed results from the website show this result
(quite a puzzle)

But still no official stage 4 results nor final GC at the site you found.
We'll await the UCI results...

And the puzzle continues…
The UCI now published the result of Stage 3, the TTT, and contrary to the Race Website they give ACDC Luso not 3rd at 48” but 6th at 1’48”…..
By the way, in the winning ProTouch team it is not the Frenchman Justin JULES but the South African Jayde JULIUS.

For Stage 4 Marc PRITZEN makes the winner salute on this picture, but the BCX team twitter gives Steven VAN HEERDEN (the one with the beard) as winner.
Let’s see what the UCI makes out of that one…

…and a new piece of the puzzle: The UCI site now gives the result of Stage 1 as the Final GC of the whole stage race….

No reason is given but Stage 4 was neutralized for a while, as regular traffic ended up between the different groups.
When the situation was cleared the race restarted with the time gaps respected.
A similar problem had occurred already during Stage 2.

Incredible... So stage 2, 3 and 4 have been declared 'not valid'.
The time bonuses in stage 1, that made Clint Hendricks leader instead of Gustav Basson, have also been cancelled. So in fact, we should handle it as a 1.1 race.  

Yes a short 1.2 race, but a 1.2 complete with a Points Classification (Hendricks did not get the time bonuses for the intermediate sprints but got the points), Youth Classification and Mountain Classification.
But the story does not end there. The UCI gave points for the top 3 and GC leader of stages 1, 2 and 3, and these points are, together with those for the Final GC, included in the UCI ranking published yesterday.

It seems we have finally reached the last chapter and with a happy end    
The UCI has, with a week delay, published on their website the result of Stage 4 and a Final GC, counting all four stages.

What remains not understandable is that the official result of Stage 4 takes into account time bonuses gained in intermediate sprints. Marc Pritzen passed the finish line first, 89/1000 of a second ahead of his team mate Van Heerden, but Van Heerden is declared winner of the stage because he got 10 seconds time bonus in intermediate sprints.
Number 3 Maree gets his 11 bonus seconds deducted in the stage result and Ebrahim moves from 14th to 5th through 5 seconds bonus.

Maybe all this will be explained in an epilogue one day…

This prologue consisted in four series with six qualifiers each, and a points race with 24 riders as a final.
The result was:

10 seconds looks already better than 10 hours but why not use a table with the heading Points rather than Time as for the Points and Mountain classifications of 2.WT races.
