Nice! Some months ago we started the 'CQ Press Center page', mainly for the trophy pics and publications about CQ. It would be also nice to show these kind of rider stories at the CQPC. I remember that some years ago, you've also posted a few remarkable stories about 'exotic' CQ riders. Some weeks ago I tried to find those posts in the Rider Data mess, but without success...

When looking for information on riders who are “ageless” in the database, you sometimes come across some small stories of human drama and success.

When I read these stories, I always wish there was a podium to publish them or to put a link to these articles.
I think we should seriously consider a Varia Page at CQ, where we can put items like interesting photos (f.e. CQ trophy wards, races we visited), news articles about CQ or other things concerning CQ riders. These small rider stories would fit perfectly in such a "CQ blog".

Yes, you are right Frans.
The Oscar GONZALEZ (ESP19920228) finishing 3rd in the Volta a Portugal do Futuro is indeed Oscar GONZALEZ BREA.

Since 10 October 2010, the Netherlands Antilles do not exist anymore as a “country” and I think that this should be reflected in the CQ database. Curaçao and Saint Martin are since then “sovereign countries”, like Aruba is already since 1986.
Saint Eustatius, Saba and Bonaire became Dutch municipalities, but as none of the riders comes from these islands, as far as I know, this does not affect the database.

One of the riders in the database is Dutch, working in Curaçao when he scored his CQ result, two others from Saint Martin.

Interesting point indeed and as usual thorough research by Hans. But I tend to disagree. Polital changes are different from sports-political changes. It looks like the UCI took over the rules of IOC and IAAF.
Both decided that Aruba is "independent" (see here: http://www.uci.ch/templates/UCI/UCI1/layout.asp?MenuId=MTI2NjU&LangId=1 but as you can see AHO does no longer exist.
Formally Hans is right; Aruba has the same "statute" as Curacao, but most federations consider them part of the Netherlands when it come to sports (see:http://nos.nl/artikel/414541-.html).
This has to do with a rule change in 1996 (if I'm correct). This means some "nations" are still considered "dseparate like Aruba (like Bermuda Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands, Guam, and Hong-Kong).

I always agreed with the principle that sports and politics should not mix, but did not realize that this can lead to an ambiguous situation where a country is sovereign in politics but not sovereign in sports.

The choice CQ has to make is:
follow what the people of Curaçao apparently would like to see, recognition as a sovereign country also in sports, and make the changes as I suggested,
or
follow the IOC/UCI rules and make the same changes but, rather than correcting the codes of certain riders to CUR (and SMX), change them to NED instead.

In the latter case, the National Championships of Curaçao of 2011 and later should be deleted from the database, as you cannot have a national champion of a country that does not exist…
(You could of course keep the results as “Championships of Curaçao”, a Dutch NE race without CQ points)

Furthermore, Curaçao should be removed from the list of countries in the choice menus for rider nationality, race origin etc…

It is up to you: follow sentiments or rules.
