I made further studies on this rider. On his Facebook page, his name is Tilegen Maydos. I noticed that Tilegen is a Kazakh and Mongolian first name (he was born in Mongolia). Maydos is a family name probably of Turkish origin but Turkish, Kazakh and Mongolian are languages belonging to the same family. The confusion comes from the fact that many Kazakh first names have endings in -dos like Zhandos, Yerdos... So his name should be Tilegen MAIDOS.

PS: you're totally right concerning German names in Eurasia (Andrey Zeits, Alexandr Shefer...).

This opens up again the question of how to treat in the CQ database the birthdates of riders from certain African countries where no birth registers were kept, or where these registers were destroyed during ethnic and civil wars.

When a rider without an official date of birth needs a license with an UCI code, the problem is solved by taking his (probable) year of birth followed by either 0101 or 1231.

A few years ago the 0101 and 1231 additions of riders from Burkina Faso were deleted from the codes in the CQ database.
Only the year of birth was kept.
This was for instance the case with Salfo BIKIENGA for whom you now added the 1231 back again.

Actually also Gyasi SULVARAN (DNF) is in the UCI result shown with a Dutch license.
This is related to the posts of a few weeks ago concerning the status of Curaçao.
The IOC, and therefore the UCI, do not recognize Curaçao as a sovereign nation, so the riders are obliged to have a Dutch license.
However, as CQ followed the “spirit” rather than the “rule”, and kept Curaçao as a separate country, I do not think that the nationality of Winkel and Sulvaran should be changed in the database.
