Doping cases

Only one rider suspended till now, I wonder what will happen to the other 6-7 positive riders in the Vuelta a Colombia.
One ban every week?

I assume that Paredes simply admitted that he has used EPO and did not ask for a test of his B sample. Case closed.
The others probably asked for a test and their “lawyers” will dream up all kinds of explanations.
These cases may drag on into the second half of 2018….

Something else. In the excel sheet 2017 you can move Ruffoni from waiting to suspended.

This article of Ciclo21 concerning the case of Daniel Silva, also gives a table of current Suspensions and Provisional suspensions.
They are copies of the UCI tables, with in addition cases treated by the Spanish AEPSAD.
Most of these AEPSAD cases concern riders that are not in the CQ database, except three.

ZABALLA GUTIERREZ Constantino (Suspended)
Add to his Rider Comment: He tested a second time positive for Hemoal in an out of competition control in May 2014. He was suspended by the Spanish Federation for 5 years, until 11 December 2019.

(In the CQ2014 excel sheet he is under “waiting for official verdict”, referring to a positive in May in the Szlakiem Grodow Piastowskich. However, according to the article, it was an out of competition control, hence the fact that it was treated by the Spanish doping authority)

SIX Marcel (Suspended for life!!??)
Did not find the how and what of this suspension for life but, non-related to the Spanish story, an 18 months suspension for him by the British UKAD for a test refusal in 2012.

In addition to the 4 Iranians already in the list of suspended riders on the CQ site, there are in this table a further 6 riders who are also in the CQ rider database.
The table does not specify the date of the positive controls, nor the substances found, but only the start and end dates of the suspensions.

This gives the following for the CQ database:

Mohsen RAMEZANI tested positive on 18 July 2015 after the Iranian MTB championships. He was suspended by the Iranian Federation for 4 years, until 30 April 2020.

LOGHMANIAN Mostafa (id13625) > Suspended
Mostafa LOGHMANIAN tested positive in 2015 after the Iranian ITT championships. He was suspended by the Iranian Federation for 4 years, until 26 February 2020.

MOSTAFAVI Seyedmousa (id24229) > Suspended
Seyedmousa MOSTAFAVI tested positive in a race of the Iranian national calendar in 2015. He was suspended by the Iranian Federation for 4 years, until 22 April 2020.
(This means that he should lose his only CQ result, 9th in the Iranian ITT championships 2016)

JADIDOLESLAMI Shahab (id22448) > Suspended
Shahab JADIDOLESLAMI tested positive in a race of the Iranian national calendar in 2017. He was suspended by the Iranian Federation for 4 years, until 18 July 2021.

ASKARI Hossein (id991) > Suspended
Combined with the still pending changes of the post of Oct 20, 2017, his new Rider Comment should be: Hossein ASKARI tested positive for Methylhexaneamine on 3 June 2013 after Stage 2 of the Tour of Singarak. He was suspended by the UCI for 1 year, until 2 June 2014. In 2015 Hossein ASKARI tested again positive, this time in a race of the Iranian national calendar. He was suspended by the Iranian Federation for 6 years, until 24 October 2021.

The logic escapes me as well, but in the table under the above link are a few more cases of a one or even two year suspension, with loss of results only in the race of the positive control.
In each of these cases the positive concerned “Specified Substances”, the same category as the salbutamol of Froome.
I would not be surprised if the Froome case will end with a similar construction:
- a one year suspension, pronounced sometime in June or August 2018, but starting retroactively on 7 September 2017
- loss of his results after that date in the Vuelta, but keeping the third place in the ITT World Championships and all results he will have obtained by then in 2018.

Concerning Askari a final small correction in the 2013 excel sheet: He was suspended for 1 year by the UCI.
